Introduction

Namient (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our name availability checking service at namient.com and related services.

Data We Collect

Name Queries

When you check a name, we send it to third-party registries (domain RDAP, npm, PyPI, GitHub, etc.) to verify availability. Query results are cached temporarily in AWS S3 to improve performance. No personally identifiable information (PII) is attached to these queries.

Authentication

If you sign in, we use Firebase Authentication (Google). We store only your Firebase UID and email address for rate limiting and session management. We do not access your Google profile, contacts, or any other Google data.

No PII Stored

We do not store IP addresses, browser fingerprints, or any personally identifiable information beyond what Firebase Authentication provides. Anonymous users can use the service without any account.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser localStorage for two purposes only: storing your theme preference (dark/light mode) and Firebase authentication tokens. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party cookie-based services. No advertising networks or analytics tools are embedded in our pages.

Third-Party Services

To check name availability, we query the following third-party services on your behalf:

  • Domain registries via RDAP protocol (ICANN-standard WHOIS replacement)
  • Package registries: npm, PyPI, NuGet, Homebrew, crates.io, and others
  • GitHub API for organization, user, and repository lookups
  • Social media platforms for handle availability
  • Firebase Authentication (Google) for sign-in
  • Google Gemini / Anthropic Claude for AI linguistic analysis and name generation

Each service has its own privacy policy. We only send the name string being checked — no user data is included in these requests.

Data Retention

Check sessions and their results expire automatically after 24 hours. Cached probe results are retained for performance optimization and are automatically purged. We do not maintain long-term logs of which names you checked. If you delete your account, all associated data is removed.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@namient.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
